For the Love of a Spud

“Behind every successful potato,” the ol’ adage goes, “is a good woman.” The good woman behind Kaiju’s most successful p’tater is Anna Dramina — the only daughter of King Ramayo, the benevolent ruler of planet Gidcer in the Andromeda Galaxy. As the female descendant of a powerful monarch, Anna grew up with the privileges of royalty: quality education, endless wealth, abundance of leisure time, and a frilly canopy bed. Nonetheless, Anna acted humbly, carrying out her royal duties with the utmost regard for the common cyborg, and never complaining when an android interrupted her dinner to ask for an autograph or a snapshot. As a result of Anna’s modesty and approachability, the inhabitants of Gidcer loved the fair goddess, calling her “the People’s Princess” and selling T-shirts, mugs, and spaceship-equipped meteor-flaps emblazoned with her smiling countenance.

Despite Anna’s allegiance to her populace, she traveled incessantly during her formative years. Insatiably curious, Anna went on her first intergalactic voyage at the age of four. From then on, she never stopped zipping around the stars, searching for new experiences and interspecies relationships. When her father announced the Gidcer-sponsored “Planet Earth Connect,” an alien-exchange program intended to promote goodwill and hospitality between independent planets, Anna shocked her father by begging him to be its very first volunteer. King Ramayo knew that sending his daughter away would break his poor heart, but like all good parents, he recognized that suppressing his child’s aspirations would be both selfish and hurtful. What Anna’s father didn’t realize was that not only would his little girl be following her dreams on Earth, but she would also be finding the vegetable of her dreams there too.

Anna met the Silver Potato while site seeing in Brazil. At the time, Potato was in training for his Kaiju Big Battel return; on that fateful afternoon, the spud was swimming laps in the hotel pool. Anna always did love things that shined and sparkled, so when she looked into the clear blue water and saw how it accentuated the creases in Potato’s foil, Anna fell in love instantly. The rest, as they say, is Kaiju Big Battel history.
